two weeks post LBL

January 14th, 2011

Well it has been two weeks since my Lower Body Lift…

I went to the Dr. today and he said I was healing well but he had to remove 600 cc’s (that is almost 21 ounces) of fluid from my abdomen.. it was so weird, it kinda hurt but was not the worst thing I have ever had to do. He used a smallish needle and some stuff to numb the skin then he took a pretty big needle attached to a tube with a huge (60 cc) syringe attached to it.. he removed 10 full syringes of fluid from me. When the fluid (it was brownish fluid that was old blood and stuff) came out I could feel the pressure going down in my abdomen and it was like I could feel myself being deflated.

I have to go back on Monday and see if there is more fluid to be removed and if so he will remove it again, if for some reason we can not get my skin to adhere to my muscles we will have to go back to the OR and he will have to drain, wash and re-close my stomach.. Please hope and pray for me that we don’t have to do that since I really don’t want to go back to the OR till it is time to have my boobs and arms done… plus I am fighting with the insurance co already and I don’t know what will happen if I have to go back in.. I am kinda scared cause I rec’d a pre approval to have the surgery and now the stupid insurance company is saying they don’t want to pay for my hospital stay, what the heck did they think I would just go under have 5 1/2 hours of surgery ~ 10 lbs of skin cut off and go home same day… they are so flipping stupid! and on top of that my blood levels fell thru the floor and if I had not been at the hospital I could have died (I know that is a little dramatic) but my levels were very low and I passed out cold..

Anyway, I am able to better see how things are going to look now and I am happy. I can not wait for the swelling to go down and the bruises to go away, yea by the way in the last 2 days I had bruises show up ~ they are lovely and go around my body about 3 or 4 inches on each side of my stitch line.

Bottom line, I feel pretty good can move pretty well and am glad I had the LBL. I am happy I picked the Dr. I used, he has been great. He has been very sensitive to the needs of a post WLS patient, he is kind, his office staff is very friendly, I feel like he treats his patients as people not a dollar sign and they really take the time to speak with you on a level that in understandable in human not doctor terms.  I am happy with the way I envision things being post swelling and fluid build up leaving. Yes I would do it again. Having the LBL was the thing I needed to do for myself so I would feel better about how I look and complete the mission I have been on. I do need to do a better job of eating since I have lost some more weight and really need to stop but I have not really felt like eating  since I have had a sinus infection but I have been meeting the minimums of protein, fluid and vitamins. I need to get back in the kitchen and make things happen, hopefully I will feel better in the next few days and can start moving forward again.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Losing it with Jillian Michaels

June 3rd, 2010

I saw the first show last night, I thought I would hate it just as much as I hate the biggest loser but I didn’t.  I always thought that the biggest loser was so unrealistic, how could people spend 6 or 8 months working out ~ I mean only working out and doing nothing else… it is not realistic in any way at all. This show was more realistic, still reality TV and not real.

This show just goes to show that WLS does not fix our heads and if you don’t work your tool it wont work for you. It also shows that WLS is NOT easy nor is it an easy way out (again if you don’t work at it you will not lose long term) unlike popular opinion.. I totally understand the daughter who had surgery, she still feels fat and can only see the fat girl. I wonder how long it takes for that to go away? People call me skinny and I laugh at them and tell them I am not skinny ~ really I am not, I am a size 12 almost 10 and that is not skinny. I still have a hard time taking a compliment and believing it is real. I want that to go away and to believe ~ how do you get there??

“This is about a life makeover, not just weight loss,” Jillian tells ET. “I move in with each family for a week and I give them the tools to change their lives.”

Jillian’s first stop is in Wilmington, MA, where she meets the Mastropietro family. She discovers that the father, who weighs 296 pounds, has already unsuccessfully tried gastric bypass surgery, and mom, who tips the scales at 261, has the same surgery scheduled. The motivation? Their daughter is getting married later in the year.

In fact, daughter Michelle underwent the gastric bypass procedure and has lost weight, but she is still not happy.

“I was 260 when I went in for surgery. I weigh 127 pounds today,” she tells Jillian. “I’m still unhappy. I still have a fat mentality, where I look in the mirror and I see that person.”

As Michaels pushes the family outside of its physical and emotional comfort zones, she uncovers a deep-rooted and upsetting issue from their past that has been the main obstacle to their living a healthier life.

They really don’t care about our health.. only MONEY !

April 15th, 2010

Here is more proof that the insurance companies who often decline to pay for WLS really don’t care about their client’s health they care about their bottom line… MONEY !!! Not making sure that people are actually healthy..

(CBS) The investments of large insurers of health, disability and long term care in fast food chains like McDonald’s and Pizza Hut have raised the interest of a study in the American Journal of Public Health, reports CBS Radio News’ John Hartge.

The Harvard Medical School’s Dr. Wesley Boyd, an author of the study, finds it ironic that these firms would invest nearly $2 billion in companies that sell food often linked to obesity and cardiovascular disease.

“The insurance industry, so far as it seeks to make a profit, it does so in an amoral way,” Boyd said.

Boyd said health insurers should be held to higher corporate standards.

Among big investors in fast food companies are life and disability insurers, like Prudential Financial, Northwestern Mutual and Massachusetts Mutual.

According to the study, Northwestern Mutual owns $422.2 million in fast-food stock, with $318.1 million invested in McDonald’s. Massachusetts Mutual owns $366.5 million of fast-food stock, including $267.2 in McDonald’s.

Holland-based ING, an investment firm that also offers life and disability insurance, has total fast-food holdings of $406.1 million, including $12.3 million in Jack in the Box, $311 million in McDonald’s, and $82.1 million in Yum! Brands, which owns Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell.

New Jersey-based Prudential Financial Inc. sells life insurance and long-term disability coverage. With total fast-food holdings of $355.5 million, Prudential Financial owns $197.2 of stock in McDonald’s and also has significant stakes in Burger King, Jack-in-the-Box and Yum! Brands.

The authors write that the recent passage of health care reform will likely expand the reach of the insurance industry, arguing that if insurers are to play a greater role in health care that they should be held to a higher standard of corporate responsibility.

“There’s a ton of irony in it,” said Boyd, a psychiatry professor. “In order to generate profits, they will invest in any area they need to … to make money, even if what they invest in, in this case fast food, is an industry that is known to cause people to get sick and to die early.”
